Design Matters

We bring smart, elevated design to mass market.

Flint & Kent has years of experience designing home products and creating new brands (or rebooting existing ones) for top lifestyle companies. Elevating design and quality at affordable prices is at the heart of what we do. F&K manages a talented—and flexible—group of individuals, which means we can keep it small, or scale up if needed.

WEST ELM

As Creative Director, Alex built and led the design team at West Elm. Her guidance positioned the brand at the forefront of sustainable initiatives and expanded West Elm’s style voice. Together, Alex’s team developed west elm Green, their first sustainable initiative focussed on a collection using organic cotton and recycled materials. They also launched the first of many modern, small-batch handcrafted collections, building a highly successful foundation and template for today’s artisan and fair trade products, positioning West Elm as a leader in their industry. These initiatives earned them the Aid to Artisan Distinguished Partner in Craft Award.

Inspiring design collaborations became apart of the West Elm’s creative DNA and were created with David Stark, Marcia Patmos, Maria Moyer, Allegra Hicks, John-Paul Philippe, Patch NYC and Pratt Design Incubator, to name a few. Under Alex’s tenure, the company grew from a single store in Dumbo, Brooklyn and catalogue into an influential lifestyle brand and source for inspiring, accessible design.

MARTHA STEWART EVERYDAY

Everything we created for Martha Stewart Everyday, a comprehensive collection of bedding, bath, kitchen and tabletop, baby nursery, holiday decorating, and outdoor garden furniture and accessories, was in the service of Martha Stewart’s vision to bring great design and high quality to the mass market. The collections were united by a clean, distinct aesthetic. Throughout the brand’s development, we managed the priorities of the Martha Stewart Living brand, Kmart merchant teams, and an international network of resources.

MARTHA STEWART SIGNATURE

As executive creative director at Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, Alex set the brand strategy and product design direction for the launch of Martha Stewart Signature, a new brand aimed at simplifying the decorating process. She led a team of product designers, editors and showroom designers in developing traditionally inspired furniture, flooring, fabrics and paint with a modern sensibility The new brand, a commercial and critical success, was a close collaboration with licensing partners and retailers and was awarded Elle Décor’s International Design Excellence Award for Furniture Design in 2004.

BABYGAP

During her tenure at babyGAP, the brand had two distinct audiences--everyday shoppers, and customers who considered the brand an aspirational purchase and gift destination. To serve both segments, Alex’s design team introduced a line of essentials for newborns. This line featured super-soft cottons, including a capsule sustainable collection of organic cotton newborn pieces. Appealing to their higher end customer, they launched babyGAP Luxe, an entirely new label of classic pieces in unexpected fabrics like cashmere, silk, linen and wool flannels, available online and at a select group of babyGAP stores including a dedicated shop on NYC’s Fifth Avenue.
