Artisan

Products with Purpose

We work with artisans and makers to design modern, handcrafted products.

We collaborate with retailers and brands to create collections with soulful stories. We offer a range of services, each one based on our belief that the best products are achieved when all elements–the client, the design, ethical production, and market--are working in sustainable harmony.

DARA ARTISANS

Dara Artisans, an e-commerce start-up that kindled our cultural curiosity and desire for discovery. Its sophisticated edit of handmade artisan crafts catered to an audience seeking authentic, responsibly sourced designs with a modern aesthetic. Flint & Kent established the merchandise vision and product assortment, through trade fairs and overseas scouting trips. We selected more than 50 different artisan groups and independent makers and helped develop their stories about the cultures that inspired them. Curating an American-made kitchen and tabletop collection with chef Tom Colicchio--with a portion of the proceeds donated to Food Policy Action--was a project highlight.

ABN HAITI

To expand its customer base, Artisan Business Network commissioned Flint & Kent to create a collection of tabletop, decorative accessories, lighting and textiles with a modern voice. We collaborated with this Haiti-based organization to develop the concepts, designs and assortment strategy, incorporating a range of materials and artisan groups. We designed ABN's trade show booth, its catalogue and marketing materials.

WEST ELM

Creating evergreen core products and building an infrastructure with artisanal communities was an integral part of the launch of West Elm’s first collection in 2007 and earned them the Aid to Artisan Distinguished Partner in Craft Award in 2009. These partnerships with organizations like ATA and independent artisan groups have gone on to lasting success, providing sustainable income for artisans and their families, and beautiful, meaningful goods for the home.
